Q. What can I expect regarding schedule?

A. Yes, this is a loaded question. Every project is different. What you should expect is to receive a realistic schedule from day one. A schedule that includes your owner vendors as well as all aspects of construction to make sure not only the contractors items are covered, but all of yours. The schedule should be discussed at every meeting and any items that could affect that schedule. This allows the owner to make educated decisions and be pro-active throughout the process. A schedule should be generated at the preliminary bid or design stage.

Q. I’m new to this. How can I be sure I have everything covered?

A.Obviously this is a concern for anyone building for the first time. That’s why you should have comfort in the fact that you are hiring an experienced commercial general contractor that understands the process and wants to help you understand it. We provide owner checklists and discuss these items at the project meetings. We’re pro-active to avoid any surprises.

Ask for a list of references and call them
Visit several of similar projects they have built and speak with the owners
Go with your gut – if it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t
